We're glad you're interested in IU South Bend. You can begin to explore IU South Bend in two ways:

  1. By taking college classes while you’re still in high school.

Take College Classes While You're Still in High School

Current high school students who have completed their sophomore year can apply to take university courses. Talk to your high school guidance counselor to find out how university courses fit into your high school schedule and college planning. To consider you for admission as a high school student, we will need:

After you have been offered admission, schedule an advising appointment with an admissions counselor by calling 574-520-4839.

How to Become a Beginning Freshman at IU South Bend

  1. Complete the admission application (you can apply online right now)
  2. Send your nonrefundable $45 application fee, payable to IU South Bend.
  3. If you are still in high school, include the counselor recommendation form
  4. Ask your high school and any colleges you have attended to send us your transcripts.
  5. If you have been out of high school for less than three years, submit your SAT and/or ACT test scores. When you register for a test, make sure to ask that your score be sent to IU South Bend; our SAT code is 1339 and our ACT code is 1225.
  6. Apply for financial aid.
  7. Take the required placement exams in reading and mathematics.
  8. Make your appointment for orientation.
  9. Pay your bill.

September, October, and November

December, January, and February

Sit down with your parents to talk about how much college costs, and how you're going to finance your education. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the IU South Bend Application for Financial Aid and submit both by the March 1 deadline. Contact the Office of Student Scholarships to learn more about the scholarships available on campus. Complete and submit your Application for Admission (you can apply online).

March, April, and May

Take placement exams and schedule your orientation appointment. Transfer students with more than 26 transferable credit hours may contact their advising unit directly after receiving their letter of admission.

June, July, and August

Attend New Student Orientation. Set up your student e-mail account, get your student ID card, buy your books, and make arrangements for paying your tuition and fees.

August

Begin classes.
