Indiana University is in the process of implementing a new student information system. Your registration
and billing activities, plus all related functions, for the 2004-05 academic year will take place in the new system.
There will be many changes in business practices at the University. Some will have a direct impact on you, while
others will be more "behind the scenes". The Office of the Bursar will communicate with you directly regarding some
of the changes which will affect you and your bursar account as we move into the coming year.
Important Changes - Read Carefully
IU Fee Courtesy Plan, Benefits Reconfigured
Effective with Fall 2004 classes, the IU Fee Courtesy Plan will include the reconfiguration of some application
processes and benefit provisions.
University Identification Number (UID)
Your social security number will no longer be your bursar account number. You have an assigned University number
which will identify you as a member of the Indiana University community. This new UID will be requested when you
transact business with our office.
Bursar Holds
Through the new self service functionality in OneStart, you will be able to view any holds which block University
services, including academic, registrar, financial aid, and bursar holds.
Bursar Holds and Releases
If your account is on hold for any reason (such as a past due balance) and you resolve that issue, your hold
will be released during the nightly system processing. This means that waiting until the last minute to transact
your business will result in additional delays in obtaining service. For example, you have a past due balance on
your account and you pay that balance on Tuesday. Your account will not be cleared for registration, transcripts,
and other services until Wednesday. With enrollment for Fall Semester 2004-05 rapidly approaching, it is important
that you resolve your bursar holds as soon as possible, but no later than one working day prior to your
registration appointment.
Refund and Course Exchange Policies in SIS - Examples
Late Program Change Fee assessment after the first week of classes:
RULE: A Late Program Change Fee of $17.70 will be assessed beginning in the second week of
classes for each section added. EXAMPLE: During Registration in April, you scheduled Elementary Composition, ENG W131,
class number (section) 5195 for 3 credit hours in First Semester 2004.05. On September 7, 2004 you decide to change
sections of the class, but remain in ENG W131. You drop class number 5195 and add class number 5200. Your bursar
account will be charged $17.70 for the drop of 5195.
Drop and add after the first week of classes. RULE: If a student (graduate, or undergraduate)
adds hours after the first week of classes, the student will receive a partial refund for the dropped course (75% the
second week, 50% the third, 25% the fourth and 0% thereafter) and will pay in full for the added course(s). The
partial refund will be applied toward the fees for the added course(s). EXAMPLE: You are a nonresident graduate
student enrolled in 9 hours for First Semester 2004-05. You drop a 3 hour class in Education and add a 4 hour class in
the Graduate School during the third week of classes. You will receive a 50% refund of the 3 hour drop. You will be
assessed for the 4 hour added class. You will also be assessed $17.70 in Late Program Change Fees for the two transactions.
