Traditional boards are becoming a thing of the past! Discover how the policy governance model is revolutionizing the nonprofit world. This one day workshop will review the basics of a traditional board model and introduce the Carver Policy Governance
Model as an alternative approach. Learn the nuts and bolts of governance, including:


TOPICS:
Basics for recruiting, orienting and retaining new board members.
Strategies to infuse energy and enthusiasm into existing board members.
Avoid micromanagement and concentrate on the big picture.
Understand the distinctive roles of the board and the executive director.
Run efficient and effective meetings.
Evaluate board effectiveness and performance.
Hire, train and conduct the annual review of the Executive Director.
Transition from a traditional board to a policy governance board..

Introduction to Grant Writing  


In this introductory course for new or slightly experienced grant writers in non-profits, learn the fundamental principles you need to develop successful grant proposals.

Notes: Recommended for those responsible for fund development in education, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Applies to the Nonprofit Management Certificate; anyone may enroll.

• Identifying funding sources
• Developing a case for support
• Proposal components
• Preparing a budget
• Explaining objectives
