International Curriculum
Individual academic departments in the School of Business and Economics
and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences administer curricula that
include many courses with international content as well as minors and certificate programs that cover studies of
various areas of the world.
Foreign Language Study
You may choose to study one (or more) of these foreign languages at IU South Bend:
Minor in European Studies
The objective of this interdisciplinary minor is to provide students who are interested in Europe and European languages with an opportunity to focus their studies and to earn formal degree recognition for their European studies upon graduation.
The minor consists of a minimum of 15 credit hours in at least three disciplines, including an independent study project, and at least second year competency in a foreign language. For more information, contact the chair of European Studies,

Minor in International Studies
International studies is the cross-national interdisciplinary study of contemporary global issues and world regions. It combines the social sciences, humanities, and professional fields to create an interdisciplinary approach to understanding our increasingly interconnected world.
The Minor consists of a minimum of 15 credit hours in at least three different disciplines including a mandatory capstone course, and at least level 2 competency in a foreign language. The 15 credit hours must be distributed as follows:
- 3-6 credits from a list of 100 or 200-level core courses with broad international content
- 6-9 credits from a list of 300-400 level core courses with broad international content

Minor in Latin American/Latino Studies
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a minor in Latin
American/Latino Studies. Curriculum focuses on the culture, society, and history of South America, Central America
and Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Certificate of International Studies
The International Studies certificate allows students from all disciplines to add international breadth to their
degree program. The certificate consists of a minimum of 15 credit hours designated as having international focus,
in addition to two semesters of foreign language. Contact the Office of International Programs
