Dear Alumni:
My name is Yu Song, new department chair for Mathematical Sciences at Indiana University South Bend. I came to IU South Bend in 1991. I have seen so many changes at the university during the last 13 years. If you have time, please visit our departmental web page, where there are many helpful pieces of information for our students and information about our program and faculty.
One area that I feel is missing is information about our alumni. We are planning to establish an email database so that we can easily share information with you and all alumni could quickly share information with us and each other.
Here is some news about some of Mathematics faculty. Dr. Morteza Shafii was the department chair for last several years. Dr. Lynn Williams has been Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the last 12 years. He will be the acting Dean for the College next academic year. Dr. Michael Kinyon has received a promotion to full professor this year. Dr. Paul Beem is retiring from IU South Bend. Dr. Mike Darnel is our current Math Club adviser and Dr. Dean Alvis is associate chair of the department.
We would like to invite you to make suggestions about our programs, visit us whenever you are in town, and possibly give a short presentation to our current students. Or, just stop by and talk with your former professors and/or me. Please feel free to contact me by writing, phone or preferably by email (yusong@iusb.edu).
In order to establish an e-newsletter for alumni, I would appreciate it if you could provide us with an email address. Please respond to me by email and indicate if you want to keep your email private or public in terms of sharing with other alumni. You could also submit a short paragraph about yourself, if you like.
