Why we do    what we do

  Diversity

To work with diverse people -- one at a time, in church groups, by civic organizations, block by block -- to help them build on their own strengths;

  Empowerment

To get people involved in creating solutions, not just talking about the problems. When appropriate, to introduce new skills needed to address the problems of daily life that diverse peoples face.

  To Build a Body of Knowledge

To conduct social science research that foregrounds the concerns of individuals and populations whose voices have previously been left out. To use methodologies that amplify those voices authentically and not with the researchers' lens. To use this knowledge to change university curricula, social policy, and public perceptions. To close the gap between what we teach in school and what happens in real life.
