13-15 May 2007Dr. Dé Bryant, Director of the Social Action Project (SOCACT), and Juanetta Hill, Family Services Coordinator for the Center for the Homeless, facilitated a workshop entitled Service-Learning in South Africa, at the Second International Symposium on Service-Learning held at University of Indianapolis in collaboration with Indiana Campus Compact; Stollenbosch University, South Africa; and Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, China. The symposium was entitled, Paradigms for the 21st Century: Educators, Community & Students. During the workshop participants completed a practical guide for resource mobilization to develop community-university partnerships.
16 October 2006Dr. Dé Bryant will present her paper entitled, The Everyone, Everywhere to the 20th National Meeting of Campus Compact. The Compact is a consortium of 1,100 universities drawn together because of their emphasis on service-learning, linking classroom education and civic engagement. The paper explores the nature of knowledge, especially in terms of who gets to decide when something we know is legitimate.

Dr. Dé Bryant presented a paper entitled, Child Rights Initiative – Using the Arts as Social Change to the Society for Community Research and Action at University of Illinois – Champaign. The paper discussed the phases of conducting community-based research within an academic setting.

Dr. Dé Bryant presented a paper entitled,
Shifting Tides: Ethics and Accountability in International Action
Research to the First International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry
at University of Illinois, Champaign, IL. The paper explored the
challenges of conducting qualitative research, especially ethical
considerations inherent to social justice initiatives.
15 April 2005Rebecca Shaffer presented her paper entitled, Breaking Silence: Intimate violence in lesbian and gay couples at the Undergraduate Research Conference, Butler University. The paper discussed her challenges and insights as she attempted to develop a support group and website.
16-18 November 2003
Dr. Dé Bryant, the convener of the Faculty Learning Circle, and Drs. Catherine Borshuk, Meryl Domina, and Desiree Vernon conducted a roundtable entitled, Social change, training researchers or teachers, and the products of knowledge. The roundtable was part of the International Conference on Civic Education Research in New Orleans, LA. The roundtable discussion was about the research process, indigenous peoples, and de-colonizing methodologies.

Dr. Dé Bryant presented a paper entitled, Community Psychology in Africa: The Social Action Project to the Biennial Conference of the Society for Community Research and Action in Las Vegas, NM, 4-7 June 2003. The paper discussed the problems with attempting to transfer western psychological theory into an international setting. Project initiatives in Nigeria and South Africa were used to illustrate some of the pitfalls.
11 April 03Sara Curtis presented her paper entitled, Efficacy and standpoint theory: Verbal communication in Art Explore at the Undergraduate Research Conference, Butler University, Indianapolis, IN. The paper discussed the paramount moment that turned the loosely defined group of youths into a collective.
10-13 March 2001Dr. Dé Bryant presented her paper entitled Promise Out of the Storm: Faculty Rewards, Community Response, and Service-Learning to the Fourth North American Conference on the Learning Paradigm, Palomar College, San Diego, California. The paper discussed how service-learning can be used to respond to community needs, provide educational experiences for students, and develop a scholarship of engagement for faculty.

2000Dr. Dé Bryant will present her paper entitled: Youth Acting Out: Creating Personal and Collective Efficacy to the North American Conference on Learning Paradigms, Palomar College, San Diego, California, USA.
