(l-r) André Anderson; Dr. Dé Bryant; Steve Lueke, Mayor, South Bend
André Anderson, chief executive officer and president of Positive Redirections of Atlanta, addressed redirecting youth to better serve the community. André, a 1999 graduate of IUSB, received his master’s in clinical/behavior psychology from Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn., and is now working on a doctorate. While at IUSB, he initiated the campus poetry jam, which continues as part of the Social Action Project on campus. The Third Annual Black Man’s Think Tank was held on Feb. 4 and 5 at IUSB. The two-day event invited everyone to campus to explore challenges and find workable solutions for all community members. The event, which began with Carl B. Westmoreland, senior advisor for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati, included Q&A following the lecture. On the second day Joseph H. Silver Sr., vice-president of academic affairs at Savannah State University, Georgia, discussed the rich African history that preceded the slave trade.
