Advocacy
- Who's Who of American Women, 2007. Nominated for
inclusion in 26th edition of this biographical resource of America's most
accomplished women.
- Eldon Lundquist Faculty Fellow, 2005-06. The Lundquist
Fellowship was established at Indiana University South Bend in 1984 to support
faculty members who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in teaching,
scholarship, and research. The award includes a public lecture which will be
presented in March 2007.
- Indiana Campus Compact Faculty Fellowship (2003). The
Indiana Campus Compact is a consortium of 31 colleges and universities
promoting community service and service learning. It supports the pursuit of
academic goals through community service, developing socially conscious and
involved citizens, and sustaining partnerships between the university and
community stakeholders.
One of seven recipients of the Faculty Fellowship for 2003-04. The Fellowship
is awarded to those who are exemplary models of integrating community
engagement into all three aspects of their professional development (teaching,
research, and professional service).
- Indiana University Recipient, Erlich
Service Award (1999) An award for exceptional record of service-learning
activities combining practical interventions with academic scholarship to
address social problems in the community.
- Indiana University South Bend Recipient, FACET
Excellence in Teaching Award (1998) An all-university award for
exemplary teaching and pedagogical contributions.
- Indiana University South Bend Nominee, Thousand Points
of Light Award (1994) President's voluntary action award for excellence in
community development and service. Received honorable mention.
- Outstanding Young Woman of America (1986) For exemplary
involvement and contribution to improved quality of life in her community.
- S.T.A.R.R. Random Acts of Kindness Award (1997) given
by IUSB advocacy group for students with disabilities.
- Ain't I A Woman Award (1993) For outstanding community
participation by the St. Joe Valley NOW chapter. Presented to women of color
in the community who have overcome - or are overcoming - the obstacles of
race and gender to better themselves and their community.
- Distinguished Service Award, City of Benton Harbor,
Michigan (1987) For outstanding service and dedication to community
improvement.
- Michigan State University Nominee, Robinson Student
Humanitarian Award (1987) An award for exceptional record of public service
to address social, governmental, or legal problems in the community, and
translate ideals into practical results.
