Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice provides students with the necessary education for careers in both the public and private sector in several areas including corrections, counseling, human services, and law enforcement. The program provides a strong background for advanced degrees in criminal justice, management and law.

  EXPERIENTIAL RECOMMENDATION
  It is recommended that students engage in a practical experience related to public affairs, e.g. internship, work experience, or some other activity approved by an academic advisor.
   
  ELECTIVES - 17 credit hours
   
   
  PLEASE NOTE:
 
  • Credit hours gained in courses that being with "0" (such as Math 014 and W031) do not count toward graduation hours.
  • Internships in Criminal Justice/Public Affairs (J380/V380) count for 1-6 elective hours.
  • The curriculum is subject to change.  Students are responsible for fulfilling curriculum requirements in the SPEA Bulletin issued during the academic year of matriculation to the University.
  • Academic advisors are available to assist students in their planning.
   
  Graduation:
  Students must apply for graduation 2 semesters prior to the anticipated date.  For example, students wanting to graduate in May should apply by September 1 of the previous year.  For December, students should apply by February 1 of that year.  Forms are available from the Student Services Coordinator in SPEA.  A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to be considered for graduation.  A minimum cumulative overall GPA of 2.00 with a minimum cumulative 2.3 GPA in core and concentration is required.
 
  Honorary:
Students who meet the necessary criteria and have a GPA of 3.5 and above are eligible to join Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
