Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management

The Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management (BSHSM) is for individuals who now hold an associate degree in a health related field or intend to complete a baccalaureate degree in preparation for an administrative position in the health area.

Requirements (effective Fall 2005)

GENERAL EDUCATION
 
FUNDAMENTAL LITERACIES (28 cr. hrs.)

EXPERIENTIAL RECOMMENDATION  
Students who have not completed an Associate of Science in Allied Health or do not have relevant work experience, must complete an internship (at least 2 credit hours, i.e., 120 contact hours) in a health care organization.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Credit hours gained in courses that being with "0" (such as Math 004, Math 014 and W031) do not count toward graduation hours.
  • Internships in Public Affairs (V380) count for 1-6 elective hours.
  • The curriculum is subject to change.  Students are responsible for fulfilling curriculum requirements in the SPEA Bulletin issued during the academic year of matriculation to the University.
  • Academic advisors are available to assist students in their planning.
       
Graduation:
Students must apply for graduation 2 semesters prior to the anticipated date.  For example, students wanting to graduate in May should apply by September 1 of the previous year.  For December, students should apply by February 1 of that year.  Forms are available from the Student Services Coordinator in SPEA.  A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to be considered for graduation.  A minimum cumulative overall GPA of 2.00 with a minimum cumulative 2.3 GPA in core and concentration is required.
       
Honorary:
Students who meet the necessary criteria and have a GPA of 3.5 and above are eligible to join Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
