Affirmative Action Committe Mission Statement

Mission

The Affirmative Action Committee (AAC) serves as an advisory and recommendatory body to the Chancellor, the Affirmative Action Office, and other units at IU South Bend in matters concerning diversity and equity. The AAC is committed to the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. It is committed to taking proactive measures to foster an atmosphere in which students, faculty, and staff may work and study in an environment free from discrimination, bias, and prejudice.

Charter

To facilitate its mission, the AAC does the following:

  1. Reviews existing affirmative action policies as the need arises;


  2. Identifies areas of IU South Bend policy and practice in need of affirmative action review;


  3. Recommends changes to existing policies and the creation of new ones to the Chancellor, the Director of Affirmative Action, and other units of the campus;


  4. Identifies ways to disseminate information on affirmative action guidelines and procedures to the campus;


  5. Promotes strategies to increase diversity among students, faculty, and staff;


  6. Advises and supports the Affirmative Action Office, Office of Campus Diversity, and other units' initiatives and programs to improve the campus climate.
