Informatics (Ruth Schwartz):

Ruth gave a brief update on the space renovation for informatics:  Bids are out for renovation of the lab.  These renovations include space design and work, electrical work, and furnishings.  Currently there are 100 students who have said that they are informatics majors.  Ruth is working to develop the cognate areas for the majors.  She said that a representative from computer science would visit each of the academic areas to get an inventory of the courses that we now have.  This inventory will help to develop the five course cognate areas.  Ruth would also like the name of a representative from each area to serve as a contact.  E-mail the names of these contacts to Ruth.

Budget, Reserves, Hospitality Policy, Questions and Answers (Mary Ann Zemke):

There was a wide ranging discussion with Mary Ann about the IU South Bend budget.  She handed out material about the operating base budget, instructional fee income, and academic salaries for new positions which included adjustments.  Mary Ann told the cabinet that the cost for PeopleSoft for this academic year was covered by academic salary savings and associated fringe benefits ($339,630).  The university does not yet have a plan to cover the costs ($459,709) for PeopleSoft for 2004-2005.  From cabinet members there were wide ranging questions about the reductions, about income and revenue, and about reserves and how and who made the decisions regarding these items.  For example, there was concern that the sabbatical support account had been reduced by $35,180.  There were many questions and concerns about reserves, reserve lines, etc.

Annual Report (Alfred Guillaume):

Alfred asked that each dean send him information about goals accomplished within the college or schools.

Respectfully submitted

Linda Marie Fritschner
