Students may earn an associate degree offered by the School of Business & Economics in the field of business. This program is designed for those students desiring less than a four-year university education but who, upon completion of two years of university study, will possess minimum employable skills in the area of business.

REQUIREMENTS: Admission as a regular student to Indiana University South Bend and completion of all orientation test requirements.

1. Completion of a minimum of 60 credits hours with at least 30 credit hours completed at Indiana University, and with at least 15 credit hours at one IU campus (correspondence courses do not satisfy residence requirements).

2. A minimum cumulative grade point average of C (2.0).

3. A minimum grade of C in any of those courses below marked with an asterisk.

Because all the courses required in the associate program are standard university credit courses, students may apply these credit hours toward an appropriate four-year degree program.

For the Associate of Science in Business, the following general-education and area concentration courses are required:

Behavioral Sciences

PSY P103 General Psychology 3 cr.

OR

SOC S161 Principles of Sociology 3 cr.

Mathematics

MATH M118 Finite Mathematics 3 cr.

Arts and Humanities

Any Courses From Arts & Humanities 6 cr.

Social Sciences

Any Social Science Course except P103 or S161 3 cr.

Science

Any Science Course 3 cr.

Business Concentration

BUS W100 Business Administration: Introduction 3 cr.
BUS A201* Introduction to Financial Accounting 3 cr.
BUS A202* Introduction to Managerial Accounting 3 cr.
BUS K201* The Computer in Business 3 cr.
BUS L201* Legal Environment of Business 3 cr.
ECON E103* Introduction to Microeconomics 3 cr.
ECON E104* Introduction to Macroeconomics 3 cr.
BUS F260 Personal Finance 3 cr.
ECON E270* Introduction to Statistical Theory in Economics and Business 3 cr.

Electives

Electives 9 cr.

 

Students who plan to pursue a four-year degree program in business are encouraged to select M119, W231 and either P103 or S161 (whichever one is not selected under Behavioral Sciences.

Students must attain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (C) in all of the above courses and not less than a grade of C (not C-) in any of those courses marked with an asterisk (*).
