The Management Information Systems (MIS) concentration focuses on the managerial and technical knowledge and skills needed for business settings. The program prepares students to fill the role of a MIS professional and/or manager. It will give students the computer knowledge and technical skills needed for businesses and not-for-profit agencies.
This concentration, the first of its kind in Michiana, will enable our graduates to effectively plan and manage complex information technologies for their firms and successfully advance their manufacturing/service organizations into the 21st century. This is a growing area given the increasing need for information technology employees who understand the complexities and can contribute to effective management of IT systems. The program will offer computing knowledge and skills as well as the managerial concepts and technique. Graduates will be able to assume a variety of responsibilities from the development of electronic commerce, to the management of large scale business process re-engineering and enterprise resource planning.
Given the strategic role of information technology in a global market and in the new internet economy, management of IT has become a major tool to develop new business models and to gain competitive advantages. This program will prepare students to understand information technology and business management in developing IT-based business models.
