For many individuals, a certificate program is an alternative or enhancement to a traditional  university degree program.

How Can a Certificate Program Help My Career?
Whether you’re looking to advance within your current profession or seeking a position in a new field, a certificate program enables you to enhance your skills and update your professional knowledge. In addition, the completed certificate documents your competency in a specific area and demonstrates commitment to your professional development.

How Does a Certificate Program Differ From a Traditional Degree Program?
Most classes for certificate programs are not graded and do not offer academic credit. Instead, classes offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs), nationally recognized units of measure for professional development. One CEU is awarded for every 10 hours of classroom instruction.

Formal admission to IU South Bend is not required. To enroll in a certificate program, a one-time, non-refundable $25 fee is required. You may enroll in more than one certificate program, however, the $25 fee must be paid for each certificate.

Do Requirements for the Certificates Ever Change?
From time to time, certificate requirements do change. The requirements for any certificate are those in place at the time you pay the $25 registration fee. From that point, the requirements will remain unchanged through the completion of your certificate.

Do CEUs From Other Seminars or Universities Transfer?
Not usually. Occasional waivers are granted. Call for information

Do IU South Bend Continuing Education Programs I’ve Taken in the Past Count Toward the Certificate?
