Giving to IU South Bend
The Development Office at IU South Bend works with over 200 accounts that provide scholarships and funding for a myriad of programs on our campus. We are also involved with various capital projects to enhance and beautify our university.
Presently, the Administration Building is going through a major renovation that will return this building to its former glory. The project is divided into nine phases.
Through private philanthropy, the new 26,000 square foot Elkhart Center opened in fall 2007 and experienced its highest enrollment in fall 2008 and continues to grow. As a cornerstone in the arts and entertainment district, this wonderful building is a tribute to Elkhart friends of IU South Bend and is “mortgage free”. However, we continue to raise dollars for much needed scholarships.
The Civil Rights Heritage Center will move to the former Engman Natatorium on West Washington Street in fall 2009. This historically significant building is owned by the South Bend Heritage Association. This renovation is part of a joint project with the city of South Bend, the South Bend Heritage Foundation, and IU South Bend. Although $1.2 million has already been raised for the brick and mortar, another $200,000 is needed to complete the finishing of the building. An additional $1.5 million is being raised for endowment which would cover a director’s salary, utilities and upkeep for perpetuity.
We invite you to share in our dreams!!
Sincerely,
Dr. Ilene Sheffer
Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs and University Advancement.
