Dr. Davis received a B.A. in Political Science and English/Journalism from Miami University (Oxford, OH) in 1994, a Master’s in Secondary Education from Xavier University (Cincinnati, OH) in 1999, and an Ed. D from the University of Cincinnati in 2009.
Her current research employs ethnographic methods to examine student conceptualizations of reading and learning through thematic and metaphor analysis of the data. She has specifically focused on the impact of scripted reading interventions as they are used in middle and secondary school settings with struggling readers. Using a similar qualitative methodology, she is currently studying conceptualizations of college-level reading and writing held by first-year students and their instructors in developmental, introductory college reading courses.
In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Literacy and Reading for Teacher Education programs at Indiana University South Bend and the University of Cincinnati, she has also taught developmental reading to incoming Freshmen at UC, and, prior to working on her doctorate, spent 5 years teaching courses in English, Journalism, Film Studies, and Feminist theory at the high school level.
