Honors Program Admission Requirements

For incoming students with fewer than 24 college credits transferred who wish to be full members in good standing:
  • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.5

  • Class rank in the top 10 percent of the graduating class This requirement will be waived for homeschooled students.

  • Combined Reading and Math SAT score of at least 1200 or ACT score of at least 26

For incoming students with 24 or more college credits who wish to be full members in good standing right away:
  • Transfer GPA of 3.5
  • Personal Essay
For current IUSB students with at least 24 credit hours:
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5*
  • Two letters of nomination by IUSB faculty at least one of which is a full time faculty member
For students who do not currently meet the requirements (Honors Program Associate Membership):
  • Students who do not meet the criteria to remain members in good standing but can show that they are making progress toward graduating with an Honors Certificate will be associate members of the Honors Program. Associate members are not eligible for Honors Scholarships, but are eligible to enroll in Honors courses, and participate in all Honors Program activities.
Note: Freshman members of the Honors Program will be required to take H100, "The Freshman Honors Colloquium." Students who transfer in, or are admitted into the Honors Program under the 24 credit hour path, will not be required to take H100.

 

Requirements for Attaining the Honors Program Certificate

Students who fulfill the following requirements will graduate with the Honors Program certificate:

  • Enrollment in and successful completion of H100, "The Freshman Honors Colloquium"; (if student joined the Honors program as a freshman)
  • Enrollment in and successful completion of at least five Honors Program courses (H100 and H399 count in this total)

  • Enrollment in and completion of H399, “The Senior Honors Project” (three credit hours)

  • Completion of a minimum of 18 hours of Honors Program course credits (H100 and H399 count in this total)

  • Maintenance of at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the time of graduation
