As we know, the kingdom of Thailand lies in the key position of Southeast Asia, making it a natural connection to Indochina, Myanmar and Southern China. It has five geographic regions, and the country has many diverse provinces that are further divided into districts, sub-districts and villages. However, Pitha Maneewatana has grown up in Bangkok--the capital city and centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. |

Royal Family Tradition
Like Western country, Thailand also has its revered Royal Family, and the majesty King is recognized as "Head of State, Head of the Armed Forces, Upholder of the Buddhist religion and Upholder of all religions" (Royal Thai Embassy). Thailand comprises abundant cultures and traditions, antique history, sultry weather and great hospitality. Therefore this Kingdom is always vivid and has an unfailing source of fascination and pleasure for international visitors.
My Cultural Experiences
I enjoy my life when I study in the United States. But sometimes, I still have some culture shock when I face the cultural differences.
For instance, Thailand can best be described as tropical and humid for the majority of the country during most of the year.
The area of Thailand north of Bangkok has a climate determined by three seasons while the southern peninsular region of Thailand has only two. When during the winter, there are so many snows in South Bend. It is amazing to see the snow only at the first time. Later, when you get used to seeing snow, you only feel that snow is normal and cold. Therefore, I like the winter in Thailand because it is warmer. On the contrary, during the summer, I prefer the weather in South Bend because it is the air dry and fresh. |

In Thailand, summer is so hot and humid. That will easily make people feel upset. As a result, during summer, staying in South Bend is better than staying in Thailand.
Furthermore, Thai food is much more delicious than American food because of the enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce in the food. On the other hand, Thai foods do not too focus on the nutrition and decoration of the food itself. For me, the traditional curry with some spices can satisfy all my feeling of hungry. |

In addition, compared with Thailand, the night life in South Bend is plain for me after coming from the capital---Bangkok. In Bangkok, there is a lot of entertainment and fun places for young people.
Every day, after a beautiful sunset, the various entertainment will add more excitement to my life. I can go to the night market, the bars, the karaoke, and the night scenes.
In short, I enjoy my student life in the United States, and I have so much fun with many friends. Therefore, I would like to share my cultural background and experiences with everyone.
