CONSTITUTION

                                  

                                                             ARTICLE I

      Name of the Organization

    This organization shall be known as the IUSB Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) of the School of Business     and Economics.

                                                                           ARTICLE II

Purpose of the Organization

The IUSB Students in Free Enterprise is a global, not-for-profit education organization, whose objective is to change the world through highly dedicated student teams.  SIFE offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise, thereby improving the standard of living for millions in the process. 

                                                                           ARTICLE III

Membership

Section 1. Qualifications

Membership in the IUSB SIFE shall be open to IUSB students, in both undergraduate and graduate program.  Any person officially enrolled as a student at a college or university, whether full or part-time, is eligible to participate in SIFE. Students that attend classes on more than one campus, or students that are enrolled in both a two and four-year program at the same time, may participate on more than one team, but are only permitted to represent one team at competition. No person shall be denied membership on the basis of race, religion, color, gender, age, national origin, sexual orientation, physical handicaps, or political beliefs.

Section 2. Schools

Each individual college and university may have only one SIFE Team. Branches of a college or university may each have their own team as long as they are located on different campuses and are separate degree-granting institutions. In these instances, each team must have a different faculty advisor. 

                                                                           ARTICLE IV

Officers

Section 1. Executive Branch

1.   The Executive Branch of the IUSB SIFE shall be comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

2.   Executive Branch officers may be elected by members of the IUSB SIFE or be chosen based on desire to hold a particular office.  If elected, the faculty member of the School of Business and Economics must subsequently approve all officers.  All members, even if running for office, shall be allowed one vote.

Section 2. Duties and Powers

1.      The President shall preside over all meetings and call executive meetings, maintain a list of active members, and notify the members of the time and place of meetings.

2.      The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence if he/she is incapable of performing said duties.

3.      The Secretary shall keep attendance records and order pizzas at stated meetings.

4.      The Treasurer shall maintain an accurate record of receipts and disbursements of funds and maintain the organization’s account in accordance with University regulations.

5.      The entire Executive Branch shall be responsible for maintaining the web page.

Section 3. Officer Qualifications

All candidates for office must have current membership with the IUSB SIFE, and be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours per semester.  The President of the IUSB SIFE must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50, while all other officers must have a 2.00 GPA.

Section 4. Term of Office

Once selected, the officers shall take office May of the current year to May of the following year or until they are unable to perform their duties.

                                                                           ARTICLE V

Meetings

  1. The IUSB SIFE shall hold meetings based on the faculty advisor or group’s request.
  2. The President shall determine the time and location of regular meetings each month.  All members shall be notified of the time and place of each meeting at the end of the previous meeting.
  3. The IUSB SIFE does not have attendance requirements.

 

                                                                          ARTICLE VI

Executive Committee

  1. The Executive Committee shall consist of at least (4) members.
  2. A quorum for the Executive Committee shall consist of two (2) members to hold an official meeting.
  3. The duties of the Executive Committee shall be to review the Constitution, propose amendments, and accept or reject the Constitution.  The Executive Committee may also be called upon for other official meetings as needed.

                                                                             ARTICLE VII

Impeachment and Removal

  1. Officers in the IUSB SIFE may be impeached for malfeasance in office, dereliction of duty, or failing to comply with the purposes and objectives of the IUSB SIFE.
  2. A petition signed by 2/3 of active members of this organization shall initiate impeachment proceedings.
  3. The office in question shall be notifies in writing at least 14 days prior to the meeting scheduled to discuss his/her impeachment.  The time, location, and all allegations shall be specified in this correspondence.  During this meeting, the officer in question shall be provided with an opportunity to address the allegations.
  4. In the event of presidential impeachment proceedings, the Vice-President shall chair the meeting and at least one advisor shall be present.
  5. In the event an office is impeached and removed from office, he/she will not retain active membership in the IUSB SIFE.
  6. A ¾ secret vote of the attending active members in an open meeting shall constitute removal permanently.

                                                                          ARTICLE VIII

Vacancies

  1. In the event the President of this organization can no longer assume the duties of that office, the Vice-President shall become President.
  2. In the event that a vacancy occurs in any office other than the presidency the remaining officers shall nominate the candidate(s) for the office that is vacant.  The IUSB SIFE shall then approve the nomination by majority vote.

                                                                            ARTICLE IX

Advisors

  1. The Indiana University South Bend Faculty Advisor of the School of Business and Economics shall be invited by the IUSB SIFE to serve as the group’s primary advisor. 
  2. The advisor shall serve as an advocate for the IUSB SIFE and will help facilitate a smooth transition from one year’s student administration to the next. 
  3. The advisor shall also ensure that all business conducted by this group meets university standards.
  4. The organization will keep the advisor informed of all activities, meetings, plans, and events.

                                                                            ARTICLE X

Amendments

Each amendment having passed by a majority vote of the IUSB SIFE Executive Committee shall become effective only after the Student Senate Constitution Committee of the IUSB Student Association has granted its approval.

                                                                           ARTICLE XI

Ratification

This constitution shall be officially ratified when signed by at least 2/3 of attending or participating members of the Executive Committee

                                                                         ARTICLE XII

Enabling Act

  Upon ratification of the constitution by the IUSB SIFE and the IUSB Student Senate, the constitution shall  become effective immediately.
