Policy on Student Probation, Dismissal, and Readmission
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
1. A CLAS student who has attempted 12 or more credit hours at IUSB will be placed on probation if the student's cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0. The student will remain on probation until the cumulative grade point average reaches at least 2.0.
2. If a student who is on probation fails to achieve a 2.0 grade point average in any regular fall or spring semester of enrollment, the student will be automatically suspended from the university for one semester (fall, spring, or combined summer sessions). The student may appeal the automatic suspension in writing to the Student Probation, Dismissal, and Readmission Committee. Readmission to IUSB on probation after the first suspension will be automatic.
3. A readmitted probationary student who fails to achieve a 2.0 grade point average in any one semester of enrollment (fall, spring, or combined summer sessions) will be subject to dismissal from the university for longer periods of time at the discretion of the Student Probation, Dismissal, and Readmission Committee. Readmission of students who have been suspended or dismissed more than once from IUSB will be subject to the approval of the Student Probation, Dismissal, and Readmission Committee.
4. Summer session enrollment by probationary students will be monitored by the Student Probation, Dismissal, and Readmission Committee to insure adequate progress towards graduation.
5. Any student whose semester (fall, spring, or summer) grade point average is below 2.0 will receive a letter of warning from the Dean describing the CLAS policies on probation and discussing potential dismissal from IUSB.
