Recovery Priority Sheets

Recovery priorities have been established for each department, area, and office to be followed in the event of a disaster. To simplify the procedure, priorities are assigned a number scale as follows:

  1. Salvage at all costs (Outside restoration/Salvage company)
  2. Salvage if time permits (In-house)
  3. Salvage as part of general clean-up, if financially feasible (In-house)

Priority decisions are based on a number of considerations:

  1. Can the items be replaced? At what cost?
  2. Would the cost of replacement be less or more than restoration of the items?
  3. How important are the items to the collection?
  4. Are the item available elsewhere?
  5. Are the items needed for continuing or restoring institutional operations (e.g. payroll, purchase orders, catalog, shelflist, inventories, and finding aids)?
