Step 1:
Check the Library Catalog (IUCAT) at: iusb.edu/~libg
If IUSB owns a copy, check it out from the library for the class. You may call in advance to "reserve" the date you need. To do this, contact Kathy Plodowski (520-4380 or kplodows@iusb.edu). If you do this, please note that the video or DVD will be allowed to circulate up until 1 week before you have "reserved" the item.
- If the IUSB library does not own the item - go to Step 2.
Step 2:
Check the IU Classroom Technology Services catalog. They have over 10,000 DVD's, videos and films for faculty instructional use at no charge, when used in an IU course on any campus.
Here is the procedure for ordering films/videos from Bloomington. It is a very easy process which can be accomplished via e-mail.
To find the movie you are looking for, do a search of ISS Classroom Technology Services catalog:
http://media3.iss.indiana.edu/htbin/wwform/188/wwk770
Send e-mail to: issmedia@indiana.edu - in body of email please list the following:
- List the name of the film/video along with the catalog number.
- List the date that you want to show the film/video.
- List the Course and section number of the class.
- List your personal contact information - name, department, phone and email address.
Films/ Videos need to be requested at least 7-10 days prior to date of showing.
E-mail confirmations will be sent directly to the requestor with a list of films/videos requested and info as to whether they are available.
When mailing films/videos back, make sure that the return address tag, which comes with each video, is placed on the box for return to Bloomington. The box needs to be sealed with a good tape to prevent it from opening during shipment.
Drop into your campus mailbox and they will be retrieved and returned by mailroom staff.
Step 3:
If the video is in IUCAT but IUSB does not own it, place an interlibrary loan
request about 1 1/2 weeks in advance.* You may place your request online at:
iusb.edu/~libg
Caution: Interlibrary Loan cannot schedule a video to be here on a specific date. The IU library that owns it may not lend, depending on their policies.
- If an IU library owns the video, but does not lend, the interlibrary loan office will proceed to step 4.
Step 4:
If you cannot find the video or DVD at IU (either in the library or through Classroom Technology Services), then your last option is to interlibrary loan the video from an outside source.
To do this you will need to place your interlibrary loan request about 2 weeks in advance.* Interlibrary Loan will search all available lending libraries for the media, but we cannot guarantee when or if it will arrive. Many libraries do not lend Audio-Visual materials, so we have a limited source. We are always happy to try to work within your time frame.
If you have questions about this process or about Interlibrary Loan, call Maureen Kennedy at 520-4433.
*Please do not submit your Interlibrary Loan request more than 2 weeks in advance because we cannot schedule when the video will arrive. When the video does arrive, we only have a short loan period, usually 7 days.
If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. Please contact Julie Elliott at 520-4410 for assistance.
