Schurz Library Speaker Series

Monday, March 26, 2007
7:30 to 9 p.m.
Northside Recital Hall, Rm 158

Please join us Neil Ernst and Peggy Philp, two of the doctors featured in our One Book, One Campus title, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, speak about Fadiman's book, and their experiences treating the patient who is at the center of the narrative. A reception will follow Ernst and Philp's talk.

Dr. Ernst and Dr. Philp met and married while students at the University of California-Berkeley. After attending medical school at the University of California-Davis, they did pediatric training in Fresno, California and Salt Lake City, Utah. They then moved to Merced, California to teach pediatrics at the UC Davis affiliated family practice residency program, opened their own family practice, and assisted the development of a level II NICU at the county hospital. While in Merced, Ernst and Philp were two of the doctors who cared for Lia Lee, the child at the center of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down.

The couple, who have two sons, left Merced in 2002 to start a group practice in Redmond, Oregon with Dan Murphy, another doctor who cared for Lia in the book.

Speakers: Dr. Neil Ernst and Dr. Peggy Philp

All Schurz Library Speaker events are free and open to the public.
