Early childhood education prepares students to work with young children in a variety of settings: infant/toddler,
preschool, kindergarten, and the primary grades. Students learn skills needed to teach reading, writing, art,
mathematics, music, and science, as well as the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to nurture literacy in
young children.
Our graduates are well trained to teach in child development centers and preschool programs, or as kindergarten
aides or after-school caregivers.
Special Opportunities
Students gain real-world classroom experience through the student teaching component of the program, which places
them directly in schools working with children.
Careers
An early childhood education degree is a great foundation for the following careers: Head Start teacher, preschool
teacher, special education assistant, school-age teacher, infant-toddler teacher, preschool director, or owner of a
child care center.
