Elementary teachers impact the social, personal, and intellectual development of their students. Their influence
stems from a love of learning, a talent for awakening students to new modes of thinking, an understanding of the
human development process, and professional skills.
The elementary education degree trains students to teach grades 1-6. Students learn a variety of teaching methods
in an effort to help children become capable and willing learners.
Special Opportunities
Students gain real-world classroom experience through the student teaching component of the program, which places
them directly in schools working with children.
Careers
A wide range of careers exist for our graduates: teachers for grades 1-6 in public or private school, teacher for
special programs such as gifted and talented, environmental education coordinator, rehabilitation counselor, adapted
physical education teacher, and creative arts or recreational therapist.
