Majors & Programs

As a French major at IU South Bend, you will not only study the language, culture, and literature of France, but you will also explore international affairs and learn about peoples around the world. The Department of Foreign Languages promotes cultural and linguistic exchanges and encourages programs that foster international understanding.

Special Opportunities

Foreign language students have access to the modern Language Resource Center, which provides 16 computer workstations for computer-assisted instruction, audio and videotapes, and foreign language books, magazines, and newspapers to support the study of languages. IU South Bend students in foreign languages are also encouraged to take advantage of one of IU's more than 60 study-abroad programs in 25 countries. You'll also have an opportunity to join the French Club.

Careers

Graduates with a French major can follow a number of career choices, including teaching, translation, tourism, and the foreign service. As a French major, you will gain a broad liberal arts education that is useful in many professions from business to journalism to organizations such as the Peace Corps.
