Nurses provide care and comfort to the sick. With the expansion of health care knowledge and technology, though,
nurses do much more than help people feel better. Nurses are knowledgeable in the biological, psychological,
physiological, and sociological sciences. In addition, they have great problem-solving, communication,
critical-thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills.
At IU South Bend, you can earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. We strive to produce graduates who are critical
thinkers, culturally competent, coordinators of community resources, politically aware, ethically and legally
competent, effective communicators, competent providers of health care, professional role models, and responsible
managers. Overall, we teach students how to assess, develop, plan, and implement care plans for their clients.
Special Opportunities
Students are encouraged to join the nurses honor society, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the IU South Bend
chapter of the Student Nurses Association. Students may also apply for a variety of nursing scholarships and
grants.
