The mission of the Office of Multicultural Enhancement is to provide excellent, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive academic support services to underrepresented students. The program is designed to recruit, retain, and graduate underrepresented students and to assist the university in training and developing leaders for an increasingly diverse, multicultural society.

The academic support programs offered by this office include supportive services such as tutoring, study skills, and referral to learning assistance resources; faculty and peer mentoring programs; personal counseling; and leadership development.

The office is comprised of the director of the Making the Academic Connection program, the Hispanic enhancement recruiter/advisor, and the multicultural counselor.

Our university is unique among Indiana University campuses as we are the home of the Civil Rights Heritage Center. The work of the center is based upon the premise that the values and success of the American Civil Rights Movement offer a unique context for connecting academic participation and achievement with personal experience and a commitment to community citizenship. The IU South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center and minority enhancement efforts, which are administered through the Office of Student Affairs, are at the center of the Making the Academic Connection program.

The Office of Multicultural Enhancement…Challenging Minds, Expanding World Views, and Invigorating Lives for a brighter tomorrow.
