Recruit, Retain, Graduate!

Picture The mission of The Making the Academic Connection Program is to provide culturally centered programs and advocacy that educate students and empower them to be leaders for change while attending IU South Bend and within their communities. Office staff collaborates with the campus community and other constituents to support the recruitment, retention, graduation and personal development of all students with emphasis given to students of diverse backgrounds from underrepresented and underserved groups.


The Making the Academic Connection Program is based upon the following principles as outlined in the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). These principles are:

We promote the academic success of our students by:
Offering distinctive programs that introduce students to a community network that teach students how to negotiate processes within Indiana University South Bend
Assist students to determine and assess their educational goals and academic skills
Provide support services that assist students in achieving educational goals and attaining or refining their academic skills
Promote intellectual, career, social, and ethical development
Connect students to campus groups and organizations
