If you plan to come to Indiana University South Bend on a student visa, U.S. immigration regulations require you to provide evidence of financial support to cover educational and living expenses for a 12 month period.

The estimated expenses for 2008–2009 are listed below (Start date of Summer & Fall 2008 and Spring 2009):

Travel expenses to IUSB, the cost of summer session tuition, and the cost of holiday travel are not included in Miscellaneous Expenses.

Documentation of Financial Support

Proof of financial documentation usually consists of:

  • An original or certified true bank statement or scholarship letter.
  • A letter from your sponsor indicating the amount he or she is willing to provide on your behalf. Organizations and/or companies providing scholarships or paid study leave for you should provide an award letter outling the details of the award in U.S. dollar amounts. Companies should provide a statement indicating that they have the amount currently available.
  • All financial documents should be less than 6 months old.

Though we can review your application for admission without financial documentation, we will not be able to issue an I-20 or a DS-2019 before we have received verification that sufficient funds are available to support you while you are a student here at Indiana University South Bend.
