All international students at IU South Bend are required to have health insurance for themselves and their families (dependents). The United States does not have a nationalized health care system, and medical care can be extremely expensive. If you need medical care and do not have insurance, you may find yourself owing thousands of dollars. The health insurance system offers you protection against these costs.

The IU policy covers varies health costs.

Indiana University South Bend has a mandatory insurance program for its students through Aetna Student Health. Non-immigrant international students are automatically enrolled in this plan when they register, and the premium amount will show up on your bursar bill each semester.

If you have your own insurance from you home country or prefer to purchase other insurance on your own, you can apply to have your IU health insurance requirement waived.

The insurance premiums for the 2007-2008 Policy Year will be $1036. You will be billed by the Office of the Bursar in two installments: $394 for the fall semester and $642 for the spring and summer. For more information about the Indiana University Insurance or eligibility to waive out of the IU Insurance please contact:
