South Bend is the largest city in the area known as Michiana (southern Michigan + Northwest Indiana).  The city has many things to offer in the areas of food, entertainment, parks and recreation.  Below are links to other useful things to know before and during your stay in South Bend Michiana area.  We are only an hour and a half hours drive from the city of Chicago.

Transportation
  • Air
  • Bus local or long distance - Coach USA or Greyhound
  • Train - South Shore or Amtrak
  • Car - Social Security Number is no longer needed to apply for a license or register a vehicle

    Food
    We have several supermarkets, specialty stores-Asian, African, etc. - and a farmer's market in South Bend.  Big stores where food may be purchased include: Martin's, Meijer's, Wal-Mart, Target and Kroger's depending on where you live. 

    Housing
    There are many housing options available to students including on campus and off campus apartments and houses.

    Shopping
    There is a mall in South Bend plus other shopping plazas and stores where students can find the clothing and other items they need for their stay and study at IU South Bend.
