International Student Orientation

Spring 2010 Orientation Tuesday January 5th and Wednesday January 6th

International Student Orientation will be your first student event at IU South Bend. It’s a chance to meet new people, enjoy fun activities, find out more about the university, and take care of the business of becoming a student.

If you have been admitted and are registered as an international or exchange student at IU South Bend, we ask that you confirm your attendance for orientation.

Orientation Schedule and Activities

Check in for Spring 2010 International Student Orientation will take place at 8:30 am.  You will receive your orientation packet, which will include an overview of the orientation program, your student identification number, a listing of the placement examinations you will be taking, and general information on IU South Bend’s services and resources.

During the Orientation Schedule, you will:

    Tour campus
    Meet other international students and connect with the International Student Organization
    Take required placement exams
    Meet with your academic advisor
    Register for classes
    Receive health and accident insurance information
    Have your visa status reviewed (please bring your passport and Visa documentation)
    Attend a workshop on U.S. immigration policies and regulations

Placement Examinations

All first-time international students and transfer students with fewer than 26 credit hours must take placement exams in English and mathematics. Incoming students who have studied French, German, Japanese, and/or Spanish are encouraged to take the foreign language exam for placement purposes. The exams will not be graded; the results are only used to place you in the courses appropriate to your skill level.

In addition to the exams listed above, graduate students entering the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program may have the option to take the Graduate Business Placement Examinations. The examinations cover financial accounting, mathematical tools in business, economics, and organizational behavior.

Graduate students entering the M.B.A., Master of Science in accounting, or the Master of Science in management information technologies may have the option to take the computer proficiency examination.
