- Fulfill minimum English Language Requirement
- Minimum TOEFL score of 530 on the paper examination, 197 on the computer-based examination or 71 on the internet-based examination.
In lieu of submitting a TOEFL score, we also accept an IELTS
score of 5.6, completion of level 109 at

Language Company: South Bend
English Institute or completion of Level 112 at
ELS Language Centers or a score
of 450 on the Critical Reasoning section of the SAT 1.
- Immigrant Students currently residing in the South Bend area may take the IUSB Interim Placement Examination.
Immigrant students includes students whose first language is not
English: U.S. Citizen, Refugee, Asylee, Permanent Resident
- At least a 2.3 cumulative secondary school grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, or a score of at least
520 on the General Educational Development (GED) test.
- Rank in upper half of secondary school class.
- Graduation from a U.S. or Canadian secondary school or comparable non-U.S.-style school.
- In general, we recommend that students complete college-preparatory course work that includes:
- Eight semesters of English or the language of instruction
- Six to eight semesters of mathematics.
- Six semesters of social science (economics, government, history, psychology, or sociology)
- Eight semesters of foreign language, fine arts, computer science, or technical skills.
- Two semesters of health, physical education, or safety.
- The SAT requirement is waived for students who have completed their secondary schooling more than one year ago.
