The IU South Bend Radiography Program is a 34+ month program(dependent upon course sequence/completion). Students may apply for admission to the radiography program after qualifying for regular admission to Indiana University South Bend. Students admitted to this program are considered pre-radiography while working on their prerequisite and general education requirements. Admission to the program is moderately competitive; therefore, completion of the prerequisite curriculum does not guarantee admission to the clinical/professional program.
Students accepted into the clinical/professional program are required to complete all mandated general collegiate study skills classes based upon placement exam scores and/or admission status (U100, X101, W031, W130, M004, M014), prerequisite (P130) and general education courses (W131, M111 or M107, S121, P103, P261, P262, R185) by the conclusion of Summer Session I prior to their anticipated entry into the clinical/professional program in Summer Session II; otherwise they are deemed ineligible to start the program. |

Education of the student radiographer in the clinical/professional program consists of didactic classes, clinical laboratories and clinical education. Graduates receive an Associate of Science degree in Radiography and are eligible to take the certification examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to become certified as a Registered Radiographer, R.T.(R).
Criteria Used for Selection of the Clinical Professional Class
Admission to the clinical/professional program is based upon each applicant's admission grade point average (AGPA) of the completed pre-radiography general education courses, a personal interview, and a rating point system. A maximum of 21students may be admitted each July (beginning of Summer Session II).
Specific Requirements
Admission to the university as a pre-radiography student and successful completion of the general education course work does not guarantee admission to the A.S. degree program. The number of clinical/professional students admitted each Summer Session II is dependent upon the number of openings available in the radiology departments in the area healthcare institutions designated as clinical education sites (Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Campuses-Mishawaka, Plymouth, and South Bend, Elkhart General Hospital and Goshen General Hospital). Any student who fails to accept an offer of admission twice is no longer eligible for consideration for admission to the clinical/professional program.
Minimum Qualifications
At the beginning of each Spring Semester, students begin the application process for admission consideration into the clinical/professional program. Meeting the minimum criteria listed will qualify applicants for continuation of the admission process. It does not guarantee student admission into the clinical/professional program.
A. Program Application Deadline Students must be certified by their academic advisor as "eligible" to apply for the clinical/professional program and must submit a formal application for admission consideration by February 1 of the year of anticipated entry.
B. Completion of 17 Credit Hours Students are required to complete a minimum of 17 credi thours of general education course work with a C or better by the end of the Spring Semester with no more than 6 credit hours to complete during Summer Session I of the year of anticipated entry into the clinical/professional program.
C. Minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) Students must have acquired a minimum admission grade point average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for the completed general education courses required for the degree (W131, M111 or M107, S121, P103, P261, P262, R185). The AGPA includes grades earned in initial and repeat courses (excluding X Policy grades according to IU policy) that are required to meet general education standards. Grades/credit hours for general collegiate study skill classes (U100, X101, W031, W130, M004, M014) or pre-requisite courses (P130) are not included in this calculation. Courses transferred from other institutions are used in calculating this average. Transfer grades must, however, meet the IU standard of C or better. This requirement is applied at the time of program application and must be maintained.
D. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for all work completed at IU South Bend. Courses for which the grades of I, S, P, R, W, or FX are assigned are not used to calculate the CGPA since thre are no points assigned to these grades. Courses transferred from other institutions are used in calculating this average. Transfer grades must, however, meet the IU standard of C or better. This requirement is applied at the time of program application and must be mainted.
