Admission Criteria Associate of Science
At the conclusion of the Spring semester of program application, students in the applicant pool are scored to determine their rank order. The criteria for admission consideration is based on a 137 point weighted scale as follows:
75 points, AGPA (Admission Grade Point Average) of the pre-radiography general education course work completed
30 points, Interview Scores
32 Rating Points, students can earn points (maximum 32) which will be added to their overall combined score as follows:
1 point given for each credit hours of a required general education course completed with a C or better by the end of the Spring semester of program application. Points available = 0-27.
5 points given for the completion of P261 and P262 ( or transfer course equivalents) with a C or better by the end of the Spring semester of program application. Points available = 5.
Essay Question Requirement
To remain eligible for th epre-admission process, each applicant must complete a series of essay questions. The questionnaire will be provided to the applicants prior to the admission interview in April and May.
Interview
An interview is required for admission consideration and will be scheduled during the months of April, May, and June (as needed).
Technical Standards
IU South Bend Radiography Program has specific Technical Standards critical to the success of students in the clinical/professional program. Students must be able to meet the requirements which include the ability to lift and transfer patients to and from the x-ray examination table; move, adjust, and manipulate equipment to perform radiographic procedures; review and evaluate radiographs to determine the quality of the image; communicate orally and in writing with patients, doctors, and other personnel; follow written and verbal directions. Students must be able to demonstrate these standards with or without reasonable accommodations in order to succeed in the program. A copy of the Technical Standards Form will be sent to each applicant to review and sign certifying that they can meet those standards.
Observation Experience
It is not mandatory that applicants for the clinical/professional program participate in an observation experience at a radiology/medical imaging center. This option can be requested by calling the Radiography office at (574) 520-4504 or by emailing tjoy@iusb.edu.
Volunteer Experience
Although not a requirement, volunteer experience is recommended and is very helpful in making a career choice.
Criminal Checks
Federal law mandates for clinical agencies to require criminal checks through the Indiana State Police. Clinical/Professional students are responsible for applying for the criminal check and all fees associated with the check.
Graduates of the Program
Graduates receive an Associate of Science degree and are eligible to take the certification examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to become certified as a Registered Technologist, R.T.(R).
Note: The ARRT requires all examinees to disclose any prior felony or misdemeanor conviction. If this situation applies to you as a student, it is recommended you contact the ARRT at (612) 687-0048 to discuss your particular case. This process is to prevent the student from having completed the A.S. degree program and being ineligible to take the ARRT exam.
