Aluminum cans

If you are feeling powerful, crushing cans helps save space. Containers are located in hallways and outside bins are located near the entrances of many buildings.

HDPE 1 and 2 plastic bottles

Only drink bottles (juice, water, soft drink) can be recycled. Remove lids.
Containers are located in hallways in every building on campus and outside bins are located near the entrances of many buildings.

Corrugated cardboard

Break down boxes and place cardboard behind hallway paper recycling containers. Custodians will pick up cardboard along with their normal pickup of other recyclables.

Paper

If you can rip it, you can recycle it. Recyclable paper includes all office, copy, and computer paper, newsprint, paper envelopes with plastic windows, notebooks, file folders, junk mail, and staple-bound catalogs.

Paper bins are located in hallways in every building on campus.

Printer cartridges

All types of ink jet and laser printer cartridges can be recycled. Envelopes for recycling printer cartridges are available from department secretaries. These envelopes just need to be placed in the campus mail. Contact Deb Marr (dmarr@iusb.edu) or Andy Schnabel (aschnabe@iusb.edu) if your department needs more envelopes.

Overhead transparencies

All types of overhead transparencies can be recycled. Boxes that are labeled for recycling transparencies and computer disks are located in most faculty and staff photocopy rooms on campus. Contact Andy Schnabel (aschnabe@iusb.edu) if you need a transparency box in your area.

CDs, DVDs, computer diskettes

All types of computer disks can be recycled. Recycling containers are located in most of the student computer labs on campus. Computer disks can also be placed in the boxes for recycling overhead transparencies.

Glue-bound and hard-bound books

At least once a year (typically in May) the recycling committee arranges for a special pick-up of glue-bound and hard-bound books. Pickup times are coordinated with the distribution of new phone books. A notice of when these special pick-ups will occur is sent through massmail and to department secretaries. Contact Dean Corey (dcorey@iusb.edu) for more information about when pick-ups will occur.
