NOTES ON: INTERCAMPUS TRANSFER POLICY/PROCEDURES
FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING FROM IU SOUTH BEND
TO IU BLOOMINGTON OR IU/PU INDIANAPOLIS
Applying as an intercampus transfer is much different than applying as a student who has never attended an Indiana University campus. Students complete the online Permanent Intercampus Transfer form at www.iupui.edu/~moveiu/ict.html. They should receive a letter in the mail within two weeks detailing what steps they need to take next. Students who have attended another college outside the Indiana University system must provide an official transcript in order to complete the application. Caution: If students fill out the Temporary Intercampus Transfer form they could be accepted as non-degree seeking and unable to qualify for financial aid.
STUDENTS TRANSFERRING FROM IU SOUTH BEND TO IU BLOOMINGTON:
Bloomington will accept a student who meets the guidelines for Academic Abilities, Achievements,
Motivation, and Maturity (see #3 in Policy and Template and Guidelines for Campus Admission
Policies, www.indiana.edu/~ufc/docs/AY06/circulars/U9-2006.htm) and has completed a
minimum of 12 IU gpa credit hours (any course 100-level and above) and a cgpa of at least 2.0.
However, if a student has not met #3 (i.e. applied originally to IUB and was denied because of HS
record) the criteria for ICT is more stringent in terms of courses accepted toward the 12 IU gpa credit
hours. In such a case, courses that do not count toward IUB degree requirements, such as Eng W130
and Math M107, will not count toward the 12 credit hour minimum requirement.
Advisors at New Student Orientation need to be cautious in assuring new students who plan to
transfer to IU Bloomington that all 100 level classes will count. They need to be told that
transfer requirements vary according to the conditions of their admission to IU and their high
school record. See website: www.indiana.edu/~iuadmit/transfer/it_standards.shtml.
IU Bloomington University Division Records office can be helpful in explaining the criteria for individual students wishing to transfer. They make the decision on ICTs and can be reached at 812-855-7797. A student denied admission can reapply online when grades are final at the end of the next semester.
New students and ICT students are required to attend orientation during the summer at IU Bloomington and cannot be advised or register for classes before then (IUB Office of Orientation Programs: 812-855-6189.) So a May application (when spring semester grades are final) will not delay the advising and registration process for an ICT student. However, resident and off-campus housing can be applied for before admission is final. IU Bloomington Residential Programs & Services (812-855-5601) has an online application at www.rps.indiana.edu (or print a PDF version and mail it in.) ICT students should follow the "Newly Admitted Student Process" as they already have IU 10-digit IDs and email accounts. The application requires a $200 deposit but $150 will be refunded if the contract is canceled before July 1 for a fall semester applicant.
STUDENTS TRANSFERRING FROM IU SOUTH BEND TO IUPUI:
IUPUI has no minimum credit hour or cgpa requirement for intercampus transfer. If students have completed less than 12 IU gpa credit hours (including 0-level courses) acceptance will be based on freshman admission guidelines. Students with a cgpa below 2.0 can apply to IUPUI, however there is a petition process that can take several weeks. Students given conditional acceptance will be admitted when conditions are met and need not reapply.
