Heathyr Harkless

Heathyr 'Dwight' Harkless joined IUSB in May 2009 teaching courses in Public Speaking and Public Relations. Originally from the Michiana area, she graduated from Concord High School in 2002, from Indiana University in 2005 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Gender Studies, and in Spring 2009 she graduated with a Master of Arts in Professional Communication with a concentration in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication from Purdue University. Prior to teaching with IUSB she also taught communication courses at Indiana Purdue University Fort Wayne and Ivy Tech Community College. She completed her graduate research on "Effective Student-Faculty Relationships: Guidelines for Faculty Communication on Social Networking Sites".
In addition to her teaching experience she also worked for two years with Girl Scouts of the USA in Program Development , Recruitment, and Public Relations and briefly with the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph county as Client Services Coordinator before leaving to work with IUSB. She also owns her own wedding planning business "Unforgettable Day" providing wedding planning and coordination services in Northern Indiana. She also serves as the Chair of Publicity and Recruitment for a local political organization. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling, music, anything sports, and serving the community.
