Karen Ackoff
Program Director of Graphic Design
Associate Professor of Visual Arts
Karen Ackoff received a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Philadelphia College of Art and started her career freelancing for children's educational publishing. Wanting a more academic approach to her artwork, she pursued an M.F.A. in Medical Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She was Assistant Professor of Illustration at University of the Arts (Philadelphia) from 1982-1987. She worked as Scientific Illustrator at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. from 1987-1997. In the fall of 1997, Ms. Ackoff came to Indiana University South Bend where she presently works as Professor of New Media and Program Director of Graphic Design. Comfortable working with a computer or a paintbrush, she exhibits nationally and internationally, her interests lying in the Renaissance techniques of egg tempera and silverpoint.
