Lois Carder is Resident Costume Designer and Professor in Theatre in the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University South Bend where she has been in residence since 1990. Her 30 year professional design career includes plays and musical theatre for theatres throughout the United States and Scotland. For ten years she designed for Hope Summer Repertory Theatre and was an Artistic Associate for the company for two of those years. She enjoys fostering the development of new plays and this work has been seen at the Chicago Actor's Ensemble, The Organic Theatre, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, as well as abroad.

Lois is dedicated to the education of theatre students. For three years she was the design chair for the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival, Region III and on the Executive Committee for five years. She received the Gold Medallion Award of Excellence from the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival, Region III for her extraordinary contributions to the teaching and producing of theatre. She is also a member of FACET, The Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching at Indiana University, which recognizes IU's most exemplary teaching faculty.
