School of Education - Survey Development
In October 2001, the School of Education received a $1,000 grant to distribute
surveys to students, alumni, area teachers, and area administrators. The
purpose of the surveys was to obtain input from a variety of stakeholders
regarding our current teacher education programs. Stakeholder input is
critical as we revise our programs in response to new state standards
and a new licensure framework.
We originally predicted that the surveys would be distributed in the
spring of 2002, but due to personnel changes within the School of Education
and the complexity of the new licensure framework, surveys were not mailed
until May 2003. The distributed surveys complied with the original protocol
submitted to the Institutional Review Board. At that time, 116 surveys
were mailed to the previously listed constituents. The original grant
request had also been amended to cover mailing costs along with student
pay. This was approved by the University Assessment Committee.
The survey deadline has passed and 106 surveys have been returned. This
is a response rate of 91%. Our student worker prepared the surveys for
the mailings and has started to prepare them for our analysis. She has
worked a total of 20 hours on this project.
I am submitting this report to closeout the grant even though all of
the awarded funds have not been spent. The student worker will be paid
$200 plus 7% of the required costs associated with benefits. Mailing costs
were also covered by the grant, but due to some confusion about account
numbers, an exact amount is not available at this time. I anticipate that
the total amount spent was far less than the original $1000 award.
I would like to thank the University Assessment Committee for supporting
the School of Education on this project. The results will be critical
as we continue to work on revising our teacher education programs and
as we prepare for our accreditation visit scheduled for October 2004.
