Assessment Grant Recipients 2007/08

The Assessment Committee would like to congratulate Douglas Agbetsiafa for recieving a grant to pilot the TUCE standardized test in the principles of economics classes.

The Nursing Program was awarded a grant to obtain detailed reports of the results of the NCLEX exam. This is the standardized test which allows graduating students to practice nursing.

The School of Education recieved a grant to send additional faculty to the NCATE conference, including faculty from LAS who partner with the SOE in service courses. The SOE will also have the help of a professional consultant in aligning their graduate programs with national teaching standards.

The Assessment Committee would like to congratulate Randy Isaacson on receiving an assessment grant to analyse data from the U100 course.

A total of $8832 was awarded

Assessment Grant Recipients Summer 2007

The Committee would also like to congratulate Lee Smith on an expansion of a previous project on enhancing Stakeholder Assessment and Follow-up in the School of Education.

Assessment Grant Recipients Spring 2007

The Assessment Committee would like to congratulate Barbara Peat on receiving an assessment grant to analyze and revise stakeholder surveys for the Criminal Justice program.

Assessment Grant Recipients Fall 2006

In fall of 2006 the following grants were awarded.

-Julie Allee, of Communication Arts will be conducting an alumni survey of communication graduates.
-Johnnie Griffin will be analyzing pre and post quizzes from the Principles of Sociology course.

$3,500 was awarded this year.

Assessment Grant Recipients Spring 2006

The Assessment Committee would like to congratulate the recipients of the Spring 2006 round of assessment grants.

-The Nursing program received two grants, a grant to develop a set of HESI exam questions, and another to test the HESI exam against another standardized test for nursing graduates.
-The Computer Science program will be bringing in an outside consultant to facilitate its accreditation with the prestigious ABET body.
-The School of Education received a grant to further develop surveys for alumni of, employers of and LAS faculty teaching school of education graduates.

$6,150 was awarded during this round of grants. The Assessment Committee plans to accept another round of grant applications in the Fall of 2006.

Assessment Grant Recipients Fall 2005

On behalf of the Criminal Justice program in SPEA, Barbara Peat received a grant to develop pre and post assessment instruments based on course objectives for the major Criminal Justice courses. final report

Naomi Petersen is working on validating a student teacher assessment instrument for the School of Education. They will be purchasing survey software for this project.

$1800 was awarded in this round of grants.

Assessment Grant Recipients Spring 2005

A. The Graduate Studies Counsel will be developing and evaluating survey instruments to assess and track graduates.
B. SPEA will also be developing and administering an alumni survey.
C. The First Year Writing Program will be using their grant to refine and use their exit goals as an assessment tool for evaluating students.

The grant awards totaled $6,640.

Assessment Grant Recipients Fall 2004

Education - Lee Smith was awarded a grant for the refining the evaluation mechanism for stakeholder satisfaction with teacher education program candidates.

Education - Naomi Peterson will be leading a project to develop an assessment instrument for associate faculty. This project includes presentation of the information at two conferences.

Informatics - Two faculty members from the Infomatics program will be attending an assessment conference, supported by an assessment grant.

Computer and Information Sciences - Hossein Hakimzadeh and Ruth Schwartz will be developing a web-based tool for conducting alumni surveys.

A total of $10,937 was awarded.

Assessment Grant Recipients Spring 2004

Nursing – The Nursing department will use its assessment grant toward the purchase of DxrNursing software. This software assesses student’s critical thinking skills at various points in the curriculum.

LAS – Liberal Arts and Sciences is developing an electronic course evaluation system. The customized evaluations will assist in making targeted improvements to LAS courses.

Counseling and Human Services – The faculty in this program will be surveying graduates and employers of graduates. This valuable feedback will help Counseling and Human Services assess the long-term impact of their program.

Assessment Grant Recipients Fall 2003

Education - The Education faculty will have two assessment retreats for planning an assessment strategy for the School of Education.

Assessment Grant Recipients Spring 2003

The IU South Bend Assessment Committee has awarded a General Education Assessment Grant to Nancy Colborn of the Schurz Library to attend the Institute for Information Literacy "Immersion '04" conference. One of the goals of this conference is to educate the librarian participants about the role of assessment as it relates to a whole curriculum including information literacy.

Assessments Grants Recipients Fall 2002

Criminal Justice - This proposal, submitted by Melchor de Guzman, will fund the analysis and evaluation of the new Criminal Justice student advising scheme.

Criminal Justice - Another grant awarded to the Criminal Justice program, submitted by Barbara Peat, will allow the program to continue its collection and analysis of data from employer surveys, alumni surveys and senior exit surveys. Summary report

Communication Arts - The Communication proposal, submitted by Alec Hosterman, will fund research and development of an improved Capstone course.

General Studies - This grant proposal, submitted by Paul Joray, will allow the General Studies program to develop and administer an alumni questionnaire.

Mathematics - The Mathematics proposal, submitted by Michael Darnel, will fund a program to evaluate and improve the math service courses offered as part of other courses of study at IU South Bend.

Political Science - The Political Science grant, submitted by Elizabeth Bennion, will be used for a comprehensive survey of assessment techniques used at IU South Bend and in similar programs in the IU system. They will also survey graduates of the program.

Social Work - This grant proposal, submitted by Paul Newcomb, will fund an alumni and graduating senior survey.

UCET - The UCET grant proposal, submitted by Terri Demmon, will fund the development of an online course survey instrument which can be used to provide midcourse and summative assessment data.
