Assessment Committee
Minutes
September 26, 2003
1:30pm

Present: Linda Fritschner, Linda Fisher, Barbara Peat, Alec Hosterman, Karen Clark,
Paul Kochanowski, Pat Henry

1. Linda Fisher welcomed everyone back to the committee and introduced Pat Henry as the only new member. (Even though she has served on the Assessment Committee in the past.)
2. The committee went over the assessment calendar for the year (attached) and established meeting through January 2004.
3. Linda Fisher highlighted two conferences of special importance: The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis in November and the Annual meeting of the Higher Learning Commission in Chicago in April, 2004.
4. The committee discussed the addition of a student representative: Samantha Dowls. It was decided that if a student does become a regular member then the Assessment committee documentation needs to be re-done.
5. The Committee asked that Linda Fisher contact Vice Chancellor Guillaume to see if he could attend either the October or November meeting.
6. Committee also discussed the need for a verbal report to the Academic Senate.
7. Committee discussed those programs that do not yet have assessment plans and if there was any action that could be taken. It was decided that Linda Fisher should draft a memo/letter that could be sent jointly by Vice Chancellor Guillaume and her. The memo/letter should be worded strongly enough to elicit a response and hopefully some action.
8. Barbara Peat stressed the need to establish benchmarks for the campus overall assessment to see how we are progressing in response to NCA past concerns. Have we addressed their concerns?
9. The Committee needs a status report from those programs that do not have assessment plans: General Studies, SPEA- three programs.
10. The Committee also discussed the Assessment grants and whether or not they should go to only new assessment activities or also be given to continuing activities. It was suggested that the grant guidelines be altered to include boxes for: new and existing.

The Committee adjourned at 2:40.
