Treasurer’s Report

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE REPORT

Capture the Flag- was scheduled for Friday, October 17 at 7:00. The game was a success. Several other clubs and students attended the event. We would like to host another game this fall. If not, then definitely in the spring. Conference at Ivy Tech- This criminal justice conference is sponsored by the Criminal Justice Program of Ivy Tech and is being held at Ivy Tech State College, South Bend. The title is, “Incarceration: The Warehousing of America’s Poor”. This is a one-day conference slated for Oct. 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m. Registration is free and seating will be limited. Please see the brochure on the CJA bulletin board for more details. CJA Bonfire- Scheduled for Oct. 31 at 6:00. We will meet at Brian Clark’s house. Please bring a non-alcoholic drink and a dish or snack to share. See Brian for directions. Hate Crime Forum- Will be in the cafeteria of the Ad. Building on

November 13 from 11:30 until 8:30. There will be a reception from 8:30-9:30. See flyer on our bulletin board for more details.

Installation Ceremony- No date as of yet.

COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT

Habitat for Humanity- Was scheduled for Oct. 18 from 9-1. Sherri Wotring and Ellen Jones worked that day. It was a great experience and we plan to schedule another workday in the spring of 2004. Graffiti Paint Over- Oct. 31 from 11-3. See Jon Peters for more info. Canned Food Drive- Scheduled for the month of November. Boxes will be placed in the buildings of IUSB. Members of the CJA will be responsible for taking the food items up to the CJA office for keeping until the end of the drive. The items collected will be given to the MAC Food Pantry of Mishawaka, and the Dismass House of Michiana. Halloween at UP Mall- A few CJA members will be passing out fingerprint/ID cards to the trick-o’-treaters. Contact Aeron Johnson.

FUNDRAISING REPORT

Phone-a Thon- No date as of yet.

Calendar- We are working on taking photos for this.

Gift Wrapping- Will be done at Barnes and Nobles and UP Mall for the Christmas season. Persons who want their gifts wrapped will be able to leave the ‘wrappers’ a tip. See Mandy Lehman for more details.

Candy- Mandy Lehman said that she needs to talk to someone in the IUSB cafeteria’s kitchen to see whether we can use it to make candy and fudge to sell before Christmas. SACPAC Concessions- The CJA will be working the concession stand for the November 18th women’s and men’s basketball games. The first game begins at 6:00. We will need to be there by 5:30. CJA will receive 50% profit of the sales from concessions. WEAR YOUR CJA T-SHIRT!

NEW MEETING FORMAT

The CJA will be conducting meetings for all members every other Friday at 5 pm. Some meeting will be held in RM 2260, and some may be held elsewhere. For members, or any students who wish to join, that are unable to attend the Friday meetings, you will be able to attend an alternate meeting the following week, mid-week. The next meeting (mid-week) is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, 2:30 pm in room DW2260.

The next Friday meeting will be on November 7, 5pm in room DW2260.

EVENTS

When the CJA hosts any events in the future, there must be flyers put up around campus announcing our event and all information pertinent to it. Photos must also be taken at the event, and if possible, CJA t-shirts should be worn.

PEP RALLY- Will be held in the SACPAC on Oct. 22 at 8:00.

Newsletter

Brian Clark said that he plans to start working on a CJA newsletter. We hope to see our first edition in November. It will be available in our office, at the meetings and through SPEA professors.

Conference Options

Las Vegas- ACJS information is available on the SPEA bulletin board under ‘conferences’. A sign-up sheet is in the CJA office. Sacramento, CA- ACJA information is available from Dr. de Guzman.

North Central Sociological Assoc. Publisher’s of Sociological Focus 79 Years of Sociology- Call for papers. Annual meeting April 1-4, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency at the Arcade, Cleveland, Ohio.

Midwest Student Sociology Conference- April 17-18, 2004. This will be held at the University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio.

2004 Annual Meetings of the Midwest Sociological Society-

April 15-18 in Kansas City, MO.

Suicide Prevention Council of St. Joseph County Presents: Preventing Suicide: Building Competent Communities October 29, 2003 from 8:30-4:30 at the Century Center, South Bend.
