Dental Hygiene

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your interest in Indiana University South Bend. We’re happy for this opportunity to introduce you to the Dental Hygiene Programs.
The Dental Hygiene curricula, which are accredited by the American Dental Association, lead to the
Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene (ASDH)
This program consists of three years of study: One year of prerequisite courses, followed by two years of professional study. Upon completion, graduates are eligible for licensure to practice this preventive dental specialty. Graduates with the associate degree are prepared to work in dental practices and clinics.
Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH)
The IU South Bend campus offers two baccalaureate degrees. The Entry Level BSDH is designed for those preparing to enter the profession with a four year degree.
The Degree Completion BSDH is for licensed hygienists who are already graduates of an accredited Associate Degree Dental Hygiene program, and wish to continue their education and enhance their career opportunities.
Programs are subject to change. Refer to the academic bulletin or consult with an advisor at the Office of Student Services in the School of Nursing and Health Professions (574-520-4571).

As the premier public institution of higher education in the area, the mission of the program is to prepare students for entry-level positions as clinical dental hygienists. The Dental Hygiene Clinic and externships provide the opportunity for students to deliver preventive oral health services to the community.
