Dental Home Page

Thank you for your interest in Indiana University South Bend.  We are happy for this opportunity to introduce you to the IU South Bend Dental Hygiene program.  Any questions you have about our program are welcome.  If you would like to speak with a faculty member, please do not hesitate to call or stop by the campus.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Admission Procedures
An IU South Bend Admissions Application should be submitted to the Office of Admissions.  Upon formally being admitted to IU South Bend, a separate application for admission to the Dental Hygiene Program (see link at bottom of page) should be completed and returned to the Programs in Dental Education office along with the supporting documents by February 1.  If a student is enrolled for the spring semester, a transcript of work completed must be sent to the Programs in Dental Education Office at the end of the semester.  Acceptance cannot be granted until this is received.  The 29 hours of prerequisites must be completed before entrance into the program.

Career Information
Dental Hygiene is one of the fastest growing health care careers today.  The Dental Hygiene profession offers flexibility, expanding employment opportunities, and very competitive salaries.  The future of health care will likely increase employment opportunities for Dental Hygienists.  It is an exciting time to be in this field.

Most of our graduates work as Dental Hygienists in general and specialty dental offices.  A number of students go on to earn a baccalaureate degree and begin related careers in Dental Hygiene education, dental sales, or dental product consulting.  Others go on to Dental School to become Dentists.  Nearly all IU South Bend graduates find either full-time or part-time jobs locally.  However, we have graduates throughout the United States and internationally.

Programs are subject to change.  Refer to academic bulletin or consults with an advisor for appropriate counseling.  Other courses and options may be available.
