Education
MS Indiana University, Bloomington
My academic interests lie in teaching composition courses to first year students. I have a BS ('64) and MS ('69) in Ed. from IU-B; taught high school English to basic and honor level students and Latin (my major is in both areas) in Indiana and Michigan for several years. As a part of my teaching responsibilities, I also enjoy our second level writing classes.
Literacy is very important to me, and for three seasons, I co-taught or directed in an IU South Bend/Workforce Project centered in SB Charles Martin Youth Center for high school students who developed pre-school literacy skills in local childcare facilities.
In recent years, IU South Bend Advance College Project Site Visitor opportunities have allowed me to renew the high school ties and calibrate, evaluate, and support W131 and A202 teachers in area high schools each semester.
As an English department member and First-Year writing committee member, I participated in evaluations numerous times of our W130 program and assisted in creating the W130 and W131 Exit Goals which currently guide our writing program.
