There are a few things you should know about financial aid.

  • IU South Bend students receive more than $19 million in financial aid each year. This includes scholarships and grants offering "free money" (not paid back), work-study opportunities that allow you to work and earn money to help pay for your costs, and low-interest student and parent loans (borrowed money that must be repaid).
  • More than half of IU South Bend students qualify for financial aid.
  • Applying is free.
  • You only need to complete two forms (the FAFSA and the IU South Bend Financial Aid Form) to apply. To be considered for awards, you must also register for classes.
  • You will never know what you are eligible for if you do not apply.
  • We can help you every step of the way.

Important Note About Withdrawing From Classes
Failure to pay your bill does not withdraw you from classes. Should you decide not to attend IU South Bend for the summer, you must notify the Office of the Registrar prior to the first day of classes.

If you do not request that your registration be canceled, you risk receiving grades of F in your classes. If you do not take action, you remain registered in your classes and you are responsible for all class fees, plus any applicable late fees, through the time you complete a total withdrawal.

You will owe all or a portion of the fees if your withdrawal is processed after the 100 percent refund period.

You must officially withdraw from canceled classes. The university does not do this for you.
